BOTSWANA AGATE MALA PRAYER BEADS – MADE TO ORDER IN BOULDER, COLORADO

A meditation tool built to last as long as your practice. This handcrafted Botswana agate mala features 8mm Botswana Agate beads, accented with black onyx and silver-toned markers, and finished with a traditional snakeknot design and natural beadwork details. Designed for meditation practice and mantra repetition, malas like this have been used across different spiritual traditions for generations. Most malas fall apart after a few weeks of daily use: threads fray, knots loosen, beads crack and tassels unravel. This one won’t. Every Botswana Agate Mala is hand-strung with strong knotting cord in our Boulder studio, with each 8mm bead inspected for structural integrity before it’s ever used. No mass production. No shortcuts. Just a mala designed to hold up to thousands of repetitions, finished with a traditional snakeknot tassel style.

Why Botswana Agate?

Botswana Agate is a beautiful banded variety of chalcedony, part of the quartz family, named for the region of Botswana in Southern Africa where it is commonly found. Agate itself was first described by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus in ancient times and named after the Achates River in Sicily. Across cultures, agates have long been used in carvings, jewelry, and personal meditation tools because of their durability and striking natural patterns.Known for its layered bands of black, white, gray, and warm brown tones, Botswana Agate is formed through volcanic activity over millions of years. Each bead carries its own natural striping and pattern, making every mala unique and full of character.

Gemstone Properties

Botswana Agate has been traditionally associated with:
  • Balance and harmony in symbolic traditions across cultures
